Most people think of Idaho as only producing potatoes but its similar to France climate allows for great wines to come from this state.  Although the wine produced here is wonderful there are much fewer wineries located in Idaho about thirty in all. The growing season is typically a bit longer, which allows the grapes to completely mature. In 2006 there were approximately 1200+ acres planted in Idaho according to the Department of Agriculture. The  majority of the wineries located here are in the south near Boisie in the Snake River Valley AVA, however there are a few wineries located up in the Panhandle. Grapes produced include: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Lemberger, Malbec, Merlot, Muscat Canelli, Orange Muscat, Petit Verdot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Syrah, Viognier, and Zweigelt.
