The Pacific Northwest has no exact boundaries by which it is defined. Some consider the entire Pacific coast from northern California all the way up into Alaska as the Pacific Northwest. For the purposes of this website we will define the Pacific Northwest as including; Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and British Columbia. The three largest cities within the Pacific Northwest are Seattle, WA, Portland, OR and Vancouver, BC. This region is extremely geographically diverse to include mountain regions, lush forests as well as more arid regions. The three US states that are in the Pacific Northwest are home to four United States National Forests, and British Columbia contains several Canadian National forests. Among the mountain ranges here in the Pacific Northwest are, the Cascade Mountains, the Coast Mountain Range, the Olympic Mountain Range and the Columbia Mountains. Besides having lush forests and beautiful mountains the Pacific Northwest houses a more arid region known as the Columbia Plateau, which is where many of the vineyards that produce our wonderful wine are located. As you can imagine having such diversity among the land the wine that is produced from this land is likewise just as diverse. The climate, soil and rainfall all are varied across this unique region of the world, which is why the Pacific Northwest produces such a variety of excellent wines. |
